The Province’s plan to fight a second wave of Covid-19 this fall starts with a flu shot.
At his daily press conference today, Premier Doug Ford said if you take the flu shot, which will include high-dose options for seniors at participating pharmacies, it will help hospitals maintain capacity and stave off surges of Covid-19 cases.
Ford says the Province is investing $70 million to introduce the biggest flu shot campaign in Canada’s history with 5.1 million doses soon to become available.
“Anyone who wants a flu shot can get one – I’ll repeat that – Anyone at all, who wants a flu shot this year can get one,” said Ford. “And I encourage everyone to please get their flu shot this year. It’s absolutely critical.”
The Premier adds that the next Covid-19 wave will come at us harder than the first one.
Ontario’s Fall Preparedness Plan will also expand testing and case and contact management, work to manage outbreaks and reduce health service backlogs while preparing for surges and recruiting and training healthcare workers.
Over the next few days, further details of the plan will be rolled out.
