Saugeen Shores police have arrested two young men in connection to vandalism to the new rainbow crosswalk in Port Elgin.
In late August, the Saugeen Shores Police Service’s Criminal Investigations and Drugs (CID) branch began an investigation into a hate motivated crime in Port Elgin.
Police say drivers had intentionally spun the tires of their vehicles causing damage to the crosswalk by leaving burn-out marks.
Investigators say they identified two people responsible for the damage
Two Saugeen Shores, men aged 18 and 19 were arrested and charged with, Mischief Under $5000 (Criminal Code Section 430(4))
The 19 year old man was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act with performing a stunt.
Investigators from the CID branch maintain they know there have been more instances of mischief to the crosswalk and are seeking the community’s help to identify those responsible.
