Brockton’s Fire Chief and Chief Building official have both announced plans to retire this year.
Fire Chief Mike Murphy has announced his intention to retire effective October 2nd, 2020, while Chief Building Official Ray Holliday announced his retirement will be effective December 31st, 2020.
Murphy served as the Fire Chief for both the Walkerton and Elmwood Fire Departments for the past nine years and served on the Walkerton Fire Department for 20 years.
A media release from the Municipality says Murphy ,”Brought a high level of professionalism to the community’s fire departments and made significant accomplishments in the areas of firefighter training and improved equipment and safety procedures.”
It also says Murphy’s work throughout the pandemic in protecting staff and public safety has been extensive as a member of the Municipal Emergency Control Group (MECG).
Mayor Chris Peabody says in a statement, “I want to publicly thank Mike for his dedication to serving our community as a leader in the fire service. I wish him all the best with his upcoming retirement.”
Also following an extensive career of public service, Chief Building Official Ray Holliday will retire at the end of this year.
He has been with the Municipality of Brockton for over ten years as the Building Inspector and for the last year served as the Chief Building Official.
Mayor Chris Peabody says Holliday, was “An integral part to the success in helping Brockton grow and develop over the last decade.”
Recruitment to replace the Fire Chief and the Chief Building Officer will commence immediately.
