A Senior Climatologist with Environment Canada says the warm weather lived up to expectations this summer, but mainly away from the shoreline.
In the Spring, David Phillips called for a warmer-than-normal summer along Ontario’s West Coast, with higher-than-normal volumes of rain.
Phillips tells Country 104.9 News the region had a great mix of weather, with numerous days between 25-30 degrees Celsius, but only a handful of days over the 30 degree mark.
He say temperatures were warmer inland, and contributed to more days of stifling heat, where towns closer to the shoreline were slightly cooler due to lake winds.
Meantime, rainfalls in Huron County were high in volume, but often occurred in single-day spurts.
The majority of July’s rainfalls took place in three separate days, where precipitation accounted for more than 30 millimetres of rain each of those days.
Phillips says Lake Huron temperatures were also warmer than expected, giving beach-goers more pleasant conditions for a swim earlier in the summer.
