Canada’s Premiers have announced their wish list for next week’s throne speech.
They say they want proper financing for the priorities and needs of all Canadians.
This includes a fair share of Canadian health spending from the Feds, hopefully reflected by an increase to covering 35 per cent of the country’s healthcare costs from the current 22 per cent.
They also want Ottawa to come to the aid of Provinces by easing the fiscal stabilization program and providing more money for infrastructure investment.
But Premier Doug Ford says the number one concern is healthcare.
“We need the support to hire more nurses, to hire more PSW’s,” said Ford. “To get more doctors to make sure we can keep a healthy system.”
Premiers Pallister, Ford, Legault and Kenney were speaking on behalf of all Canadian Premiers today in Ottawa.
Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister says millions of Canadians are currently waiting for an appointment test, surgery or medical treatment.
He says these delays are painful and the issue needs to be addressed in next week’s throne speech.
