There are more storage units in Bracebridge thanks to some hard work by the Bracebridge Lions Club.
This week the 14 units built by club members between November 2019 and this past august were unveiled behind the clubhouse at 325 Fraserburg Road.
The club required a new steady income stream and came upon the storage unit idea because there is a shortage of them in the area.
Once the mortgage is paid, some of the money raised through their rentals will keep the hall going, but the rest will go back to the community.
The club does everything from supporting people who need dentures to provide funds for area groups like CNIB Camp on Lake Joseph and the Manna Food Bank.
There are eight 8×8 units and six 10×14 units.
It costs $76 per month to rent the smaller units and $120 for the large. Because the club is not-for-profit there is no HST.
More than 1000 hours of Lion member time and hard work went into the project.
The club is grateful to all those who came out to help, however, a special mention goes to Lion Scott McFarlane without whose help and construction expertise this building would still just be a dream.
A Grand Opening ceremony was held Sept 12th.
Bracebridge Mayor Graydon Smith officially opened the building and Lion President Scott said a few words of thanks to all who contributed to the completion of the building.
