One person has died after jumping into the water at the pier of the Kincardine Main Beach to try and help two teens who were swept in.
Provincial Police say they received a report of two teens being swept off the pier by a large wave just after 8 p.m. Thursday night.
South Bruce OPP officers, Kincardine firefighters and Bruce County paramedics attended the scene to find the teens had returned to shore.
Police say an adult that had jumped in to help the teens was recovered from the water, unresponsive.
According to the OPP, the adult was taken to a local hospital where they were pronounced deceased.
OPP are withholding the identity of the deceased pending next-of-kin notification.
Police say the south pier at Kincardine Main Beach has been closed in the interest of public safety. They’re urging people to avoid the area until it re-opens.
