Lester Anoquot has been re-elected as Chief of Saugeen First Nation.
Band members handed Anoquot a third two-year term as chief in Monday’s election. According to official results published by One Feather, the election service provider, 544 ballots were cast in yesterday’s vote and 194 backed Anoquot.
Anoquot beat out Conrad Ritchie by 32 votes.
Ritchie — an incumbent councillor — was also on the ballot as a councillor and was re-elected. Four other incumbent councillors were also re-elected: Gayle Mason, Letitia Thompson, Lorne Mandawoub and Mike Henry.
The other successful candidates in Monday’s vote who will sit on Saugeen First Nation’s nine member council for the next term are: Doran Ritchie, Melissa Snowdon, Sheena Kewageshig and Vernon Roote.
Chief and council of Saugeen First Nation are elected every two years.
