Face coverings will soon be requested for anyone that rides Orangeville Transit.
Starting September 8th, facial coverings for riders will be requested in order to ensure passenger safety, particularly with the start of the school year.
Orangeville Mayor Sandy Brown says they are asking transit riders to wear them, but are not mandating it as they want to do their part to minimize potential for community transmission on the transit system.
Anyone who can’t wear one due to a medical condition will be exempt from it, and customers who do not have a mask will still be permitted to board the buses.
There will be physical distancing floor markers to help people stay the recommended two metres apart, and vehicles will get frequent cleaning too.
There are already some seats blocked off to help with distancing and transit fares continue to be waived until the end of September as part of a pandemic relief measure.
As of October 1st the exact fare will be required again and passengers will once again be required to board at the front door only.
