The Bruce County Public Library is eliminating late fees and any outstanding fines for the remainder of 2020.
A statement from the library explains this is an effort to support our communities as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Libraries see increased usage during economic downturns and eliminating fines can support individuals, families, and communities through the pandemic and recovery,” a release from the Bruce County Library says. “Removing fines from children’s materials would allow more children to access materials, encourage every child to have a library card, and promote early learning and literacy.”
While the change is currently only in place until the end of 2020, the library plans on looking into the possibility of eliminating overdue fines as a permanent change.
All 17 branches of the Bruce County Public Library re-opened as of August 17, under reduced hours to allow for additional cleaning.
