The Progressive Conservative MPP for Huron-Bruce says her government plans to address Ontario’s deficit, once the battle against COVID-19 dwindles.
Last week, the Ford government announced the project deficit is expected to grow to $38.5 billion this year, more than double what was forecasted at the end of March.
While much of that spending is attributed to the province’s battle against the novel coronavirus, MPP Lisa Thompson says the health and safety of Ontarians has preceded fiscal restraint.
Thompson tells Country 104.9 News the province has created a reserve fund, in the event a second wave of COVID-19 needs to be addressed.
This Fall, Thompson says another fiscal update will be provided.
She expects the province will begin to address the deficit, along with Ontario’s financial standing, when the 2021 budget is presented next Spring.
