OPP have charged a 29-year-old Orillia man with sexual assault and forcible confinement after police say a 6-year-old child was sexually assaulted in Tudhope Park.
Police report that a male entered the washroom at 8:40 pm last night (Aug 12th) at Moose Beach in the park, approached a 6-year-old and sexually assaulted them.
The details of the assault were relayed to the father, by the child.
The father and another witness then followed the suspect to the suspect’s residence on Crawford Street and called police.
After an investigation, police arrested and charged Derek Pye, originally of Oshawa, who now resides in Orillia.
Pye is also charged with sexual interference.
He’s being held in custody for a bail hearing today in Barrie, via video.
Police say this incident illustrates the need for parents and caregivers to talk to their children about the potential dangers of strangers.
