Grey Bruce OPP has a new detachment commander.
Acting Inspector Paul Schambers, who grew up in the Wiarton area, is returning to his roots to lead the Grey Bruce OPP detachment. He started the role on Aug. 2, according to an OPP release.
Schambers recently served as the interim Detachment Commander and Acting Inspector role at the OPP Ottawa detachment.
Schambers has worked in policing nearly 30 years, having started his career with the Toronto Police Service in 1990. He then transferred to the OPP in 1996 and has stayed with the province's police service since.
According to the OPP, Schambers completed duration postings in Kanata and Gogama before returning to the Guelph detachment.
He went on to be a detective with Anti-Rackets and the Child Exploitation Unit and was a Detective Sergeant with the Professional Standards Bureau.
Schambers also served as the Sergeant Major for West Region. He was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in 2014 and served in both Renfrew and Wellington Counties.
The Grey Bruce OPP detachment serves many communities in the region, including Chatsworth, Georgian Bluffs, Grey Highlands, Meaford, Northern Bruce Peninsula, South Bruce Peninsula, Southgate and Saugeen First Nation.
