Owen Sound police had a busy Saturday night that included an assault and a few dangerous drivers.
Police say just after 9 Saturday night (Aug 8th) they were called about a man driving erratically while travelling northbound on the Eddie Sargent Parkway.
As officers were attending the area, the caller updated them saying the vehicle had crashed north of Owen Sound on Grey Road 1, and had gone off the road towards the water.
Police, Inter township firefighters and Grey County EMS responded and found the vehicle in the area of Legacy Ridge Golf course.
They say the pickup had crashed through several guardrail posts, travelled down an embankment and was stopped from going into the water by several trees.
Police say the 40 year old Owen Sound man driving had minor injuries. He was arrested and turned over to Grey Bruce OPP.
Then, police say Just before 1:30 Sunday morning, officers were called about a man who had been assaulted in the downtown core.
Police say witnesses told them the assault was unprovoked and the man may have been sprayed with pepper spray by people in a vehicle. Police say the victim was taken to the hospital and officers continue to investigate the incident.
About half an hour later, just after 2 a.m., police say three dirt bike style (50-80 cc) motorcycles were seen driving erratically in the area of 8th Street and 3rd Avenue East.
Police say the bikes had no lights or licence plates and when officers tried to stop them, they took off southbound on 3rd Avenue East, hitting a pedestrian on the sidewalk and running the red light at the intersection.
Police say, out of concern for the safety of the public and that of the motorcycle drivers, officers did not initiate a pursuit.
Police say the male pedestrian who was hit, was transported to hospital for medical treatment of what is believed to be a minor injuries.
The drivers of the motorcycles appeared to be in their mid to late teens. The motor cycles were later observed in the area of Harrison Park where they again failed to stop for police.
Anyone who may have information to assist with these investigations is asked to contact Owen Sound Police Service or Crime Stoppers of Grey Bruce.
