Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “.
I know it’s the middle of this week, but I want to backtrack to last week and last weekend for what likely will be the two biggest sporting events in the region, certainly for the Summer of 2020.
Saugeen Golf Club hosted the Golf Ontario Under 19 Boys Championship last week.
A spectacular final round of 6 under by Nolan Piazza of the Cherry Hill Club allowed him to grab the championship at this age bracket for the 2nd time in the last 3 years.
After dealing with a handful of contenders in the first 3 rounds, Piazza smoked the field on the final day and won the title by 10 strokes.
Reports from the site indicate the calibre of play through the week was extremely high and Saugeen Golf Club did a terrific job as the host.
One hopes that 5 years down the road, when Saugeen celebrates their 100th anniversary, there will be another GAO Championship at the course.
Meanwhile, Saturday at Hanover Raceway, the 2020 Dream of Glory was won by Doug McNair and ” Remember Titans. “
You might remember ” Remember Titans “, a week or so ago we were talking about the fractured ownership program from Landmark Stables which means a lot of people have done very well with the horse on a $ 2,000 investment.
” Remember Titans ” took advantage of a first turn break by heavy favourite ” Hot Wheelz ” and never looked back.
There’s no racing this Saturday at Hanover Raceway. Track action returns August 15th.
I’m Fred Wallace
