Today marks the 40th anniversary of a civic reception to welcome and honour Terry Fox on his original Marathon of Hope to Orillia’s Rotary Aquatheatre in Couchiching Beach Park.
The local organizing committee says there will be a brief mid-afternoon convoy around Terry Fox Circle today– maintaining safe physical distancing — to remind everyone to register online to raise or donate funds for the event.
“The global pandemic has unfortunately affected what we would be planning for Terry Fox Run day on September 20th,” says Orillia run organizer Alison Stoneman. “But it doesn’t stop cancer or our efforts to raise awareness and funds to support ongoing cancer research.”
The committee has been planning other creative opportunities for people to participate in their neighbourhoods or online.
Terry Fox virtual Runs will be held in Gravenhurst, Barrie, Heart of Georgian Bay (Midland area), Sugarbush (Oro-Medonte), Lagoon City-Brechin and Beaverton and across Canada on Sunday, September 20, 2020.
