When it comes to climate change initiatives, most voters in our latest survey think their local governments should stay out of it.
In our latest online poll, Bayshore Broadcasting News asked if you want your municipal government to be more involved in climate change initiatives?
If most people had their say, local governments would not use taxpayer money for green-friendly initiatives.
59 per cent of respondents answered “no,” suggesting there is no need to spend local tax dollars on this issue.
One respondent suggested the world's major industrial powers need to get on board with climate initiatives before Canada can expect to make an impact.
Another voter claims global weather patterns are natural, and have been changing “since the beginning of time.”
Meantime, 41 per cent of respondents feel municipal governments should spend money on climate change initiatives.
Those who voted “yes” on municipal green spending feel the issue is too important not to address, while others feel infrastructure like roads and bridges should accommodate green-friendly travel, like cycling and walking.
Five-hundred and eighty-seven people took part in the survey.
