The OPP has received many calls regarding a Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) scam in Orillia.
This is the scam where someone calls pretending they’re a police officer or other enforcement official stating you owe tax money and will be arrested if you don’t immediately pay.
The scammer then requests payment via BitCoin, gift cards or credit cards.
Police are reminding residents to never give out personal information to someone who calls you asking for it, especially if you don’t know who it is on the other end of the line.
