The Province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) reports that this morning at 9:25 am OPP were notified that a man had assaulted individuals at the Valu-Mart in Minden on Hwy 35.
The SIU say he then left the store in a vehicle.
An OPP officer observed the vehicle and followed it for a short while. Based on the vehicle’s license plate, officers made their way to a residence on Indian Point Road.
Outside the residence there was an interaction with the man and two officers discharged their firearms. The man was struck and transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:47 am.
OPP Sgt. Jason Folz tells Max FM/Country 102 that the man was asked to wear a mask at the store and refused.
Folz said he then assaulted a store employee who cleans carts at the front of the store.
The man then proceeded to leave in his vehicle and drove dangerously, veering at other people in the area.
Police called off a short pursuit in the interests of public safety.
