Giving all students more of a chance to succeed in life.
That’s the idea behind the Province’s new Education Equity Strategy.
Today Premier Doug Ford said that Kindergarten to Grade 3 students will no longer be suspended for non-serious offences.
As well, the province will move forward with ending Grade 9 streaming into applied and academic courses and will strengthen sanctions for teachers who engage in racist behaviour.
“Our black, indigenous and racialized students face more social and economic barriers to success than their fellow students and that’s just not right,” said Ford.
Ford says at a young age one decision could exclude a student for life.
Ford says racism of any kind and hate has no place in the classroom and he’s excited to see what students can do once these roadblocks are removed.
