South Bruce Peninsula Mayor Janice Jackson says Sauble Beach will stay open this upcoming weekend after getting compliance from beachgoers last weekend.
“We had less issues this weekend than we've had in quite a while,” says Jackson.
Jackson says council met Tuesday (July 7) and decided to keep the beach fully open for now, “We have all agreed to meet weekly just to review each weekend up to the civic weekend which is our major concern and beyond that.”
“We were really thrilled, we got really good reports back,” says Jackson, adding people took the time to make sure they were physically distancing and following the bylaws on the beach.
Jackson feels the incoming mandatory mask order will help protect local businesses and says the Town plans to take it a step further, “We are going to be putting together a package for all the businesses with masks and hand sanitizers.”
On Tuesday, Grey Bruce Medical Officer of Health Dr. Ian Arra announced a mandatory mask rule would come into effect in the area within the next ten days for indoor public spaces.
Meanwhile, Sauble Beach is now considered to be fully open for swimming and sunbathing as long as people are respecting provincial orders about gathering sizes no larger than ten people and keeping a physical distance of six feet from others.
