Bruce County's Homes Committee is set to meet virtually Thursday (July 2nd) to discuss long-term care at Brucelea Haven in Walkerton.
A staff report for the Committee recommends it extend a contract with the private company, Primacare Management Services set to end December 31st until March 31st 2021.
The County operates two long-term care homes, Brucelea Haven in Walkerton and Gateway Haven in Wiarton.
Back in September 2019, operational and compliance concerns of the County-run home Brucelea Haven prompted the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to suspend admissions to the home. The County then hired Primacare to manage the home on a six-month contract with the option of extension.
The committee will consider extending that on Thursday. Staff estimate in their report it will cost an additional $138,000 to cover the three month extension.
Those who are interested can watch the meeting by live stream on the County's website. The Clerk's Office says the Homes Committee is expected to meet at about 1 p.m. after a lunch break.
There will be an open session and a closed session.
The Clerks Office says video of the meeting will be published afterwards within the following week.
If the committee agrees with the recommendation it can pass a resolution to act on the recommendations in the meeting.
Those minutes from the committee then would have to be approved by Council at its August meeting.
