Local municipalities are getting a share of provincial funding to improve safety on public transit.
Today, Simcoe-Grey MPP Jim Wilson announced more than 80 thousand dollars for the riding, to cover additional cleaning costs of municipal transit systems due to COVID-19.
Of those funds, Simcoe County has been promised $39,084, Clearview is supposed to receive $5,657, and $9,202 has been allocated to Wasaga Beach, while New Tecumseth has been promised $14,130 and Collingwood $13,507.
Barrie will receive just over $96,700 of the $15 million being split among 110 municipalities.
On June 11, the province announced enhanced transit safety guidelines that included a recommendation passengers wear face coverings and respect physical distancing while drivers use a physical barrier to separate them from riders.
The province also recommended “enhanced deep-cleaning” for all vehicles and stations.
