Premier Doug Ford says he’s deeply concerned about reports of corruption in the tow truck industry.
There are a small group of bad apples out there involved in turf wars who are lighting trucks on fire and smashing windows.
Today he announced a new task force to provide provincial oversight of the tow truck industry.
“Theres no place for that kind of activity in our cities, in our Province and along our highways,” said Ford. “To all the bad actors out there, my message is very clear – the party’s over. We’re coming for you and we’ll catch you and we will lock you up.”
Recent arrest in project platinum for example seized tow trucks and hauled illegal firearms off the streets.
Ford says the turf wars are unacceptable.
The new task force has met twice so far. They will continue to meet with a view to provide recommendations by the end of July.
The plan then is to hold stakeholder meetings in August with legislation if required this fall.
