It's going to look a lot like Christmas in Meaford on Canada Day this year.
With traditional festivities cancelled for Canada's 153rd on July 1 because of emergency restrictions on organized public events, municipalities have been trying to come up with different ways residents can mark the occasion.
In Meaford, it's Christmas lights.
Municipal officials say because the usual Canada Day festivities and fireworks in Meaford have been cancelled, the community is being encouraged to decorate their homes with Christmas lights to show off Canadian pride for our nation's birthday on Wednesday.
“You can also celebrate by wearing red and white, and visiting one of Meaford's many parks and trails to enjoy the natural beauty of our area,” a statement from the municipality explains.
The Meaford Water Tower will also be lit up with a red and white glow on Canada Day.
