With traditional Canada Day fireworks not going ahead next month because of COVID-19, the Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce has come up with some other ways people can mark our nation's 153rd birthday.
On July 1, the Chamber is inviting everyone in Saugeen Shores to “Dinner in the Driveway” starting at 5 p.m. The idea is to bring your dinner outdoors and enjoy the different dining experience with your neighbours, while keeping a safe distance.
At 7 p.m. on Canada Day, they're urging everyone to sing the national anthem.
“Immediately following the singing of ‘O Canada’ we want everyone to make some noise to celebrate the hard work that frontline workers have put into keeping our community safe and healthy,” a statement from the Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce explains.
Canada Day celebration kits which include flags, temporary tattoos and a colouring book are available by donation and can be picked-up on June 30 in the parking lot at the Saugeen Shores Municipal Office from 12 p.m. until 5:30 p.m.
A Celebrate Saugeen Shores Draw is also being held, with the Chamber sharing entries on social media from June 29 to July 3. They're asking people to send pictures with a short caption about what you love Saugeen Shores.
