Hub City Hubbub
The Canadian government has made an alteration in order to aid one of 3 Canadian markets to become a hub city for the National Hockey League’s resumption of play.
The federal government issued an order in council that would allow one of Edmonton, Toronto or Vancouver, to serve as one of the NHL’s 2 hub cities.
The order is awaiting the Governor General’s signature.
Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Marco Mendicino has issued a letter saying it’s in the national interest to have a Canadian hub after the Public Health Agency of Canada and the public health authorities in Toronto, Edmonton and Vancouver all gave their approval of the NHL’s plan to keep players separate from the general public.
It would be called a cohort quarantine which would allow the NHL to bypass the traditional 14-day quarantine for anyone entering Canada.
CHL Suit
Two former Canadian Hockey League players have launched a class-action lawsuit alleging that players aged 15 to 17 were victims to hazing, bullying, physical and verbal harassment, physical assault, sexual harassment, and sexual assault.
The lawsuit was forwarded by Daniel Carcillo and Garrett Taylor.
Carcillo played in the Ontario Hockey League at Sarnia and Mississauga while Taylor played in the Western League
The suit comes only days after explosive allegations by former Kitchener Rangers forward Eric Guest which included a scenario in which he and another young teammate were forced to do cocaine by a veteran teammate at the Rangers Rookie Party in 2016.
Meanwhile, more allegations have surfaced in the wake of the comments earlier this week by Guest.
Yesterday another former Ranger, defenceman Sean Allen, outlined incidents that he endured as a rookie with the Rangers 2 years prior to the episodes recounted by Guest.
Attack Extend Ticket Deadline
The Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League announced this morning they are extending their season ticket membership renewal campaign to the end of July.
Season Ticket members have until July 31st to claim seats again for next season with the Owen Sound Attack.
Earlier this week, the Ontario Hockey League announced they plan to resume in the Fall and conduct a full schedule, but no firm dates were announced or established.
MLBPA Proposal Shot Down
Major League Baseball Players proposed a 70-game regular-season schedule yesterday.
However, the proposal was immediately rejected by baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred.
The latest swap of concepts have left the owners and players sides 10 games and about $275 million apart on plans to start the coronavirus-delayed season.
As part of the union proposal, players would wear advertisement patches on their uniforms during all games for the first time in major league history.
Blue Jays Sign 3
The Toronto Blue Jays have signed 3 players from the 2020 draft including second-round pick CJ Van Eyk
Van Eyk, a 21-year-old right-handed pitcher from Florida State University, who had a record of 18-5 during his 3 seasons playing college baseball.
Toronto also signed pitcher Trent Palmer and outfielder Zach Britton to contracts.
CFL Talks
The Canadian Football League's Player Relations Committee invited the players association to begin formal bargaining talks on the 2020 and 2021 season.
The move follows a statement from commissioner Randy Ambrosie as the league continues to assess whether they can play a shortened season in 2020.
Ambrosie said the CFL is assessing both whether it is safe to hold a shortened season this year and whether it is financially viable.

Hanover Raceway Release
Hanover Raceway kicks off its 2020 stakes season this Saturday afternoon with three divisions of the Prospect Series for Ontario Sired three-year-old pacing fillies.
Trainer Jack Darling will harness two fillies in the opening leg of the Prospect Series, Races 5, 7 and 9 on the 2 pm program, and is hoping for good things from both Dreamadreamforme and Twin B Hello.
“Dreamadreamforme, she actually won a Grassroots up there last year at Hanover,” said Darling. “But her first start she didn’t race very good so I thought I’d put them both in and see how they do and go from there. Hope they can move up, if not then they will stay in the Prospect.”
Dreamadreamforme will start from Post 3 in the second $7,100 Prospect Series division with Jason Ryan in the race bike. The Betterthancheddar daughter heads into the race off a 1:56.4 victory in her May 29 qualifier at Woodbine Mohawk Park and a fifth-place result in her sophomore debut at Georgian Downs on June 9. Last season the filly toured the Hanover half-mile in 2:00 in the Aug. 24 two-year-old pacing filly Grassroots event.
Ryan will steer Twin B Hello from Post 5 in the third division, and the pair will be looking to match or improve on the second-place result they posted in a June 9 start at Georgian Downs. The Sunshine Beach daughter was also second in her May 29 qualifier at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
“Twin B Hello last year as a two-year-old, she was okay, but she really wasn’t even good enough for the Grassroots. She’s actually come back better this year,” noted Cambridge, ON resident Darling, who also owns both fillies. “She seems a little better, so we’ll try her in there and if she gets better we can always upgrade to the Grassroots, but for now that’s a good spot for her.”
Canada’s leading driver Doug McNair will be back at Hanover Raceway this Saturday afternoon and has a mount in all three Prospect Series divisions. The rural Guelph resident will pilot Southwind Bayou from Post 1 in the first split for trainer Rob Fellows, Capistrano from Post 6 in the second division for trainer Harry Poulton and In Land Beach from Post 3 in the last division for trainer Mario Baillargeon.
“A couple months ago we didn’t know if we’d be even racing so it’s pretty good to get going with sires stakes — some nice, fresh, good, young horses. It’s that time of year again,” said McNair, who has five victories to his credit through the first two weeks of racing at Hanover.
“It’s a little bit of fun. It’s different. I haven’t done it a long time, so it’s a little different,” said McNair of his decision to add Hanover to his schedule. “And I mean the track’s good, it’s in good shape. The horses seem to get around it all right, and you’re not going 26 second first quarters.”
In addition to having the track in tiptop condition the Hanover Raceway staff was busy during the off season enhancing the live broadcast, with a new studio and HD streaming on the track’s website, Facebook page and YouTube channel.
“With my TV background I knew exactly what I wanted our product to look like,” said General Manager Steve Fitzsimmons. “And the results speak for themselves.”
Although they cannot be present at the racetrack, Hanover Raceway fans have wagered more than $60,000 on the track’s first two programs and they have also enthusiastically engaged with the Grey County oval on social media.
Fans can download a free program for this Saturday’s races, including the trio of Prospect Series divisions from the Hanover Raceway website. The first race gets under way at 2 pm.
In addition to Saturday’s Prospect Series season opener, Hanover Raceway will play host to three more Prospect Series events and two Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots events. A complete schedule is below.

Owen Sound Minor Soccer Release
To the Players and Parents of the Owen Sound Minor Soccer Association:
Thank you for your continued patience over these past few months as we navigate through these challenging times.
During this time, the OSMSA has been meeting regularly, virtually, and planning for the upcoming season in hopes that a return to play would be happening in the near future. The Province and the City of Owen Sound has started the process to allow our community to open up and last week our governing body Ontario Soccer also released a comprehensive Return to Play Guide to help manage our actions as a club.

Given the current restrictions, coupled with the fact that it is now mid-June, Minor Soccer will not be able to operate a traditional house league or rep soccer program.
Owen Sound Minor Soccer will be refunding all registrations to parents who have already signed up for the 2020 season. (more details to follow)
However, we have not given up entirely on soccer this season. We hope to be able to offer a modified soccer program for certain age groups (those born in 2010 and older) later this summer/fall if the number of people allowed to gather in groups is increased (beyond the current limit of 10) and if physical distancing regulations are modified.
This program will look very different than anything we have offered in the past and the Board is looking at various options as we monitor the pandemic situation in the coming weeks. The health and safety of our players, volunteers, parents and community will guide all of our discussions as will following guidelines provided by health authorities and soccer governing bodies.
Please continue to monitor our website and Facebook page for updates as they become available.
