Collingwood town council will vote today on a motion to look into options for prohibiting “symbols of hate and racial intolerance.”
The discussion began over a confederate flag that was being flown in the town and a petition was created to make sure hate symbols, like the flag, are prohibited.
For many the flag is a symbol of racism and hatred, which recently got banned by the U.S. navy, marines and NASCAR.
Last fall, Abigail Hitchens launched an online petition calling on Collingwood to enact a bylaw prohibiting hate symbols and over 29-thousand people have signed it so far.
