Huron County OPP are reminding residents not all bear sightings are emergencies.
The messaging follows several black bear sightings in recent days across Ontario’s West Coast.
Video surfaced this week of a black bear along the Goderich To Auburn Rail Trail near Westmount Line.
Police say a bear was also spotted near Point Farms Provincial Park and the Morris Tract Nature Reserve.
9-1-1 should only be called if a bear exhibits threatening behaviour, enters a school yard, or kills livestock or pets and lingers at the site.
For non-emergency encounters with bears, it is recommended you call the toll-free Bear Wise reporting line at 1-866-514-2327.
Bear sightings are not an everyday event in Huron County, however, they do occasionally happen.A citizen spotted this bear on her morning walk today on the GART trail outside of Goderich near Westmount Line. #HuronOPP reminds you to #BeBearWise Stop, Don't Panic & Remain Calm.^js pic.twitter.com/TcGQAlA222
