A cautious restart of family member visits to Ontario Long Term Care (LTC), Group and Retirement Homes will start soon
Today Premier Doug Ford said it will begin June 18th.
The phased visitation plan will allow family members to see their loved ones.
The following conditions, amongst others will apply:
At LTC’s – one visitor per resident will be allowed during one visit per week and it will be outdoors only.
Minister of Long Term Care Merilee Fullerton says the homes must also not be in outbreak.
The rules at Retirement Homes will be slightly different.
“Retirement Homes will have outdoor and indoor visits,” she said, “with the number of visitors being left to the description of the home. To visit, you must have tested negative for Covid-19 in the past two weeks, pass an active screening questionnaire, clean your hands when you arrive and depart with soap and water or alcohol based sanitizer.”
In the meantime, the Canadian Armed Forces will stay on at several homes to keep people safe.
Ford says these settings are still vulnerable to outbreaks – as of today, 67 of the homes are still in outbreak.
In the coming days and weeks, the Province will continue to monitor things closely.
We need to reunite families. June 18th we will launch a cautious restart of visits to congregate living homes with restrictions:
