Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says University students across Canada should be proud despite their graduation being so different this year.
He was at Carleton University this morning to give the 2020 commencement speech.
Today’s address served as a virtual celebration for graduating university students during Covid-19.
Trudeau said 2020 serves as a wake-up call for the current generation which he says will be the greatest of the century.
“Your generation has acutely sensed what was wrong with the world and what needed to be fixed,” he said. “You marched for climate change, you had the courage to say ‘Me Too’, you pushed us along the road to reconciliation, you stood up because Black Lives Matter, you demanded the freedom to love whom you love, to be who you are.”
With this year being so different, the PM acknowledged the unprecedented challenges facing students.
He says he can’t think of a generation better prepared to set us on the right path forward.
The PM added that one of the things this year’s graduating students didn’t need was a piece of paper to affect change.
Instead of my daily update this morning, I’ll be speaking to the graduating class of 2020. Watch my English address at 10:45AM EDT and my French address at 11:15AM EDT. I’ll share the links here when I’m about to speak – so check back then!
