A public memorial service for George Floyd is being held in Houston, Texas today.
A six-hour viewing for Floyd is planned, starting at noon, followed by funeral services and burial tomorrow in the suburb of Pearland, where he will be laid to rest next to his mother, Larcenia Floyd.
Previous memorials have already been held for Floyd in Minneapolis and Raeford, North Carolina, close to where he was born.
Floyd died two weeks ago after a Minneapolis police officer knelt on his neck for several minutes.
His death has inspired international protests, including Barrie, Thornbury, Huntsville and Toronto
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump says he’s given the order for National Guard troops to begin withdrawing from the nation’s capital, saying everything is “under perfect control.”
I have just given an order for our National Guard to start the process of withdrawing from Washington, D.C., now that everything is under perfect control. They will be going home, but can quickly return, if needed. Far fewer protesters showed up last night than anticipated!
