More event cancellations have been announced in Kincardine.
The Municipality says in coordination with the Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band Executive, the difficult decision has been made to cancel weekly Pipe Band Parades this summer.
The 29th Annual Gathering of the Bands Festival is also cancelled.
“As the Province of Ontario prepares to open up in phases, out of the interest of public health and safety it is apparent that the Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band is unable to continue this summer with traditional Saturday Night Parades as well as this, our 29th Annual Gathering of the Band,” a statement from the Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band executive reads. “With that in mind, we plan work along-side the Municipality to monitor the ongoing situation and evaluate opportunities for the Phantom Piper to play atop the Lighthouse sometime during this summer. Furthermore, we would be open to entertaining other potential venues where we can guarantee the health and safety of our members and the public at large.”
Mayor Anne Eadie says in a statement: “On behalf of the Municipality of Kincardine residents and the countless visitors that enjoy these locally iconic events annually, we thank you for your dedication over the many years and are already looking forward to your return in 2021. We will continue to monitor the provincial phases, and, as permitted, look forward to exploring other opportunities with the band and their members this summer.”
The Municipality of Kincardine acknowledges discussions with various other municipal event committees are currently underway in this same regard and as required, updates will be provided.
