Premier Doug Ford has launched his Premier’s Council of Equality for Opportunity to help vulnerable young people achieve long-term success.
Ford says the Council will hear from young people from marginalised communiies and that they will speak to the barriers they are facing.
$1.5 million in new funding has also been announced for the advancement of black communities to help respond to the challenges of Covid-19.
Today, Jamil Jivani, Ontario’s Advocate for Community Opportunities, said the new council has been in the works for some time.
“We did not start paying attention to these issues this week because of the current news cycle, we did not wait for CNN to tell us that there is a problem,” he said. “Rather, we have been working on these issues for months.”
The money will go towards immediate supports needed by these communities.
Those interested in joining the council are invited to apply to the Public Appointments Secretariat by Thursday, June 18th, 2020.
