Restaurant owners in Barrie are being given a new option to offer outdoor dining experiences.
City council has approved a ‘Patios Everywhere’ Program, which will see restaurants – once they are allowed to reopen by the Province for dine-in options – be able to offer outdoor dining experiences while maintain physical distancing.
This will allow restaurant owners flexibility while ensuring safe standards remain.
The program is intended to address patios that are outside of the downtown Business Improvement Area.
Mayor Jeff Lehman says the additional patio space across the city will provide options to create public spaces and to safely adapt during the pandemic.
Food and Refreshment Trucks are another option for restaurants to operate safely at this time
City staff are also exploring a dedicated location for these trucks, potentially using city parking lots, as part of the Patios Everywhere program.
*All food/refreshment trucks would have to meet all required health and safety inspections required by the Health Unit

*All applicable city fees for this program are being waived.
