Premier Doug Ford says he wants Ontario’s State of Emergency extended another 30 days.
Ford says the province is working aggressively to get the economy going based on its testing strategy and the number of current Covid-19 cases, but tomorrow there will be a vote, expected to pass, to extend it further until June 30th.
Ford was asked today whether there is a plan to extend it even further past June 30th.
“It all depends on the situation we’re facing,” answered Ford. “If we’re seeing that everything’s moving in the right direction and the numbers are going down, then we don’t need too. But if we see the movement hasn’t happened, then the option’s on the table.”
There is no specific plan right now to extend it past June 30th and a lot of things can happen in four weeks, he added, especially if the Covid-19 case numbers come down.
Health Minister Christine Elliott adds that a careful and measured approach still needs to be followed.
