Saugeen Shores has re-opened most of its beaches following the end of the closure order by the region's medical officer of health.
The Town says in a release all of its beaches, except for the Port Elgin Main Beach, are now open. The Port Elgin Main Beach remains temporarily closed while safety protocols are developed and implemented due to the ongoing Fisheries and Oceans Canada breakwater project.
Beach-goers are urged to respect physical distancing. The Town reminds social gatherings of more than five people are still prohibited by provincial order.
“Everyone must do their part to use our reopened beaches safely,” says Saugeen Shores Mayor Luke Charbonneau. “From physical distancing to picking up after ourselves when we leave, let's work together so we can all enjoy our beaches this summer.”
Town staff advise that due to high water levels, towel space is limited at many beaches, in particular Gobles Grove. In some cases, parking has been removed.
