Premier Doug Ford says the Province is looking at a staged regional approach towards reopening Ontario.
It’s not yet known how this would take shape, but with Ontario ramping up its testing measures, officials would be in a better position to understand the virus’s spread and potential areas that could reopen first.
Starting today, more people than ever are being urged to get tested for Covid-19, especially vulnerable populations in congregate settings.
Ford says mobile testing teams will be rapidly deployed to hotspots throughout the Province when needed.
“I am now comfortable with asking our officials to look at a regional approach for a staged reopening,” said Ford. “This will be one option we consider as we move into Stage 2. This is one option we are putting on the table. And we can only do this now, because we are getting our testing to where we need it.”
There are 129 Covid-19 assessment centres open now right across the province.
As an indication of the increased testing push, Ontario completed 18,500 Covid-19 tests yesterday.
