Work has more than doubled at a drive-thru COVID-19 testing centre, in Goderich.
In mid-April, the Maitland Valley Family Health Team opened the testing centre at the town’s Knights of Columbus Hall.
At that point, Executive Director Matthew Hoy says the facility was conducting up to 15 tests per day.
Now, that figure has jumped to as high as 38 tests per day.
Hoy says testing ramped up when the province expanded the qualifications for receiving testing.
Health officials say those in the region with one symptom of the novel coronavirus are eligible for testing, along with anyone who has had contact with a confirmed or suspected case.
Those at risk of contracting COVID-19 through their employment (healthcare, grocery, and other essential workers) are also eligible for the expanded testing.
Huron County residents are encouraged to use the province’s online assessment tool, and to contact their family doctor about scheduling a test.
If you do not have a family doctor, you can call Huron Perth Public Health at 1-888-221-2133 ext. 3267.
