The Ontario government is keeping schools closed for the rest of this school year.
It says private schools, licensed child care centres and EarlyON programs will also stay closed for Stage 1 of the Province's reopening plan with a gradual reopening in Stage 2 based on public health criteria.
Emergency child care will continue to operate and provide support for health care and other frontline workers.
Today's announcement was made by Premier Doug Ford, Stephen Lecce, Minister of Education, and Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health.
At the same time, the Ontario goverment says it's planning for the reopening of schools for the 2020-21 school year, the gradual reopening of child care, and the opening of summer day camps provided public health indicators allow suggest it's a good idea.
Officials say they'll announce a plan later this summer for going back to school in the fall. They're also promising an enhanced virtual learning program.
