Ontario will have to renew the State of Emergency.
That from Premier Doug Ford today, who adds that while the number of Covid-19 cases in the province are going down, there has to be a consistent trend like that for at least two weeks before the State is lifted.
“Yes, we are going to have to renew the state of emergency,” said Ford. “Once we get through this, well that’s going to be taken off the table and once we see the confidence within the system and we see the numbers drop consistently. We’re crossing our fingers we’re on the right path right now.”
When it is renewed, the State of Emergency will be in effect until June 2nd.
Under the state of emergency, the closure of non-essential businesses will continue, as will the moratorium of gatherings of five people or more.
The legislature resumes its fourth emergency session tomorrow (Tuesday) where it’s expected Ford’s request will be passed..
Ford says an update on students going back to school will be announced next week.
Starting today, Ontarians have more options to support local businesses. For stores with a street entrance, you can order and pay ahead or pick up curbside. We are getting more people back to work as quickly and safely as possible. https://t.co/78vZ9dwMsy pic.twitter.com/wb2XvMhgCH
