Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s daily news conference focused today on helping our essential workers.
He said the federal government has worked out a deal with the provinces and territories that will see a top up for essential workers – who make less than $2,500 a month.
The top up is geared for those working in long-term care facilities for the elderly, front-line workers in hospitals and people working in the food industry
Trudeau stressed it’s a “joint effort” among both levels of government, and that Canada will support with three-quarters of the cost while the provinces will decide who will qualify for a raise.
Some provinces have already given it out, including Ontario who has already gone ahead with a 4 dollar an hour temporary salary increase for front-line workers
