Testing for Covid-19 is at an all time high in Ontario.
Today Premier Doug Ford confirmed that as of May 1st, the Province has achieved 17,000 tests per day – a far cry from the 4,000 being done per day at the outset of the pandemic.
But even with Ontario leading the country per capita in terms of tests being done, Ford says we can’t stop now.
He says as we inch towards opening parks and more retail businesses which offer curbside delivery, we have to be careful.
“These gains are significant but we still have a lot of work to do,” said Ford. “We will not rest on our laurels. That’s why we remain laser focused on ensuring we are testing our most vulnerable.”
Health Minister and Deputy Premier Christine Elliott says 342,000 tests for Covid-19 have been done in Ontario to date, with more being ramped up at places like long term care and group homes.

On April 10th we set a target of 16K tests per day by May 6th. Thanks to our incredible team we’ve exceeded that target and are leaders in testing across Canada. But we won’t stop pushing now – there’s still work to do when it comes to beating this virus. https://t.co/mmtpRSCXq9 pic.twitter.com/S85AAn73gg
