The federal government has announced more significant financial support today for students and other young Canadians struggling to stay afloat and find jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the Canada Emergency Student Benefit is intended to support young people who have fallen through the cracks of other emergency financial assistance.
He says it will pay students $1250 a month from May -August, and will go up to $1750 a month if the student is taking care of someone or has a disability.
Trudeau says there will also be specific supports for indigenous students, as well as volunteers.
