The Province is providing millions more to help seniors and other vulnerable sectors fight Covid-19.
$11 million announced today will help deliver food, medical supplies and other essentials to seniors via the Ontario Community Support Association and the meals on wheels program.
Premier Doug Ford says payments are also being increased through the Guaranteed Annual Income System (GAINS).
“I’m proud to say we have doubled those payments for 194,000 low- income seniors across the province,” said Ford. “This means up to an extra of $166 a month in the pockets of our low-income seniors and up to an extra $332 per month per couple. This will provide much needed financial support to the seniors who need it the most and make it easier for them stay safe and healthy at home.”
And Ontario has also announced $40 million through the Residential Relief Fund to help developmental services, child welfare, victims shelters, and organizations deliver social services to vulnerable First Nations residents.
It will help with Covid-19-related costs, like personal protective equipment (PPE) and enhanced staffing.
$148 million too will go to municipal partners who administer social services with funding to support the province’s most vulnerable.
Premier Ford says “we have to take care of our own.”
