The federal government has unveiled more financial support for vulnerable Canadians struggling to weather the COVID-19 pandemic.
Today’s measures announced by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, are on top of previously announced moves to provide financial support to the homeless, non-profits, charities, and local organizations that provide support to seniors.
Trudeau says the 350-million dollar Emergency Community Support Fund will help smaller front-line organizations, as well as larger community groups including: United Way, Red Cross and Salvation Army.
He says the funding will be used for training, volunteers, increasing at home deliveries, and helping seniors get to appointments.
The government also provided more details today about the timing and roll-out of the massive $73-billion Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS) program, which gives qualifying employers up to $847 per employee each week to keep people on the payroll.
Online applications are to open on Monday, April 27 and a new calculator has been added to the CRA website, so businesses can find out what to claim from the program.
More details will be released later today.
