A major annual fishing event in Bruce County has been cancelled this year.
The Chantry Chinook Classic Salmon Derby Committee has announced this summer's derby will be postponed until 2021, due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
The event, which sees anglers swarm the waters of Lake Huron, was scheduled to run July 25 to August 9, 2020.
“We have been closely monitoring the continuing developments with the guidance of the federal, provincial and municipal governments,” says Derby Chairman Brian Lang in a release. “While we were hoping to proceed as usual, it is now obvious that we would not be able to ensure the health and safety of participants and volunteers. For that and many other reasons, we have decided it is best to put the Chantry Derby on hold.”
The Chantry Chinook Classic draws in anglers from across Canada and internationally, with over a thousand attendees every year, which helps to support club operations and conservation efforts.
The staple fishing derby will return to hold its 37th annual event in July 2021.
