CFL Start Delayed
The Canadian Football League season will be delayed until at least July.
CFL officials are looking at various scenarios once governments and medical experts decide it is safe to play again.
The league was slated to kick off the regular season on June 11th, but that date was bumped by various restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic,
The announcement follows recent comments by Mayor Naheed Nenshi that Calgary's ban on public events until June 30 includes CFL and NHL games
Toronto Mayor John Tory announced last week that public events in Toronto would be cancelled through June 30th.
GP A No Go
The Canadian Grand Prix at Montreal has postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Formula One race was scheduled to take place during the weekend of June 12th-14th
Race organizers said the decision was made in consultation with Formula One and representatives from the City of Montreal, Tourism Montreal and provincial and federal governments.
The postponement came hours after the CFL pushed back the start of its regular season in June.
Formula One hopes to run the race later in the year.
UFC Cranking Out Cards
UFC president Dana White is committed to resuming operations in the midst of the global coronavirus pandemic.
White confirmed that UFC 249 is on for April 18th in the United States at an undisclosed location.
The main event for UFC 249 has Tony Ferguson against Justin Gaethje for the interim lightweight championship
White also confirmed the UFC has secured an island location and will stage fight cards from that island location going forward.
NHL Resumption
National Hockey League commissioner Gary Bettman says the league is still weeks away from making a decision on whether to hit the ice again.
Bettman speaking to NBCSN, related he believes there will be more clarity by the end of April.
There does not appear to be a limit on how deep the NHL is willing to play into the summer to award the Stanley Cup in 2020.
The NHL could lose approximately $1.1 billion in revenue, responsibility for half of which falls to the players, if the remainder of the season is not played.
Bettman also stated the cancellation of the Tokyo Olympics, which were scheduled to take place from July 24th to August 6th, have been postponed to 2021 provides the NHL with a deeper window to play games this summer, if possible
The NHL ceased operations March 12th in the face of the coronavirus pandemic
Avalanche Positive
An eighth NHL player has tested positive for COVID-19.
The league announced yesterday that a third player from the Colorado Avalanche has been affected and the player is in self-isolation,
The five other NHL players who tested positive play for the Ottawa Senators.
NHL players have been advised by the league to self-quarantine since March 13th. That directive is currently in effect until April 15th.
Cave In Coma
The Edmonton Oilers say forward Colby Cave is out of emergency surgery after suffering a brain bleed.
Doctors removed a cyst that was causing pressure on Cave's brain yesterday.
He remains in a medically-induced coma at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto.
A 25-year-old from Battleford, Saskatchewan., Cave scored once in 11 appearances with Edmonton this season.
Cave's agent, Jason Davidson, states the situation doesn't appear to be linked to the COVID-19 pandemic.
OHL U18 Priority Selection
The Ontario Hockey League Under 18 Priority Selection is set for today
The North Bay Battalion have the first pick in the draft that goes at noon.
The Owen Sound Attack will make the 10th selection and the anticipation is they will target a defenceman
