A Covid-19 Relief Fund via the Muskoka Builders Association (MBA) hopes to raise $100,000 to help local health services and charities battle coronavirus.
Thomas Cowden, MBA’s Vice President, says the two main focuses are to raise money and have community members spread the word about the fund.
Cowden, Kurt Browne, owner of NorStar Exteriors and Mike Archambault, Sr. Project Manager with Tamarack North worked to establish the effort because they knew the local community was going to need support and fast.
“We began talking with the other MBA directors and decided that as a group we’d make an initial $10,000 donation on behalf of the membership and initiate a call to the rest of the local construction community to continue this fundraiser,” says Cowden. “In less than seven days we’ve hit over half our $100,000 target.”
Donations to area charities and health organizations from the fund are to start this week.
Recipients will include, but are not limited to:
– Manna Food Bank, Bracebridge
– Table Soup Kitchen Foundation, Huntsville
– Harvest Share Community Food Program, Parry Sound
– West Muskoka Food Bank, Port Carling
– Muskoka Women’s Advocacy Group
– South Muskoka Hospital Foundation
– Huntsville Hospital Foundation
– West Parry Sound Health Centre Foundation
