South Bruce Peninsula is hiring a security firm to enforce town by-laws and provincial orders relating to COVID-19.
The town says in a statement it has secured the services of James Special Services Inc., in response to new provincial legislation and a lack of adherence by some to social distancing and provincial closures.
“There is nothing more important than the health and safety of our community during this pandemic. The Province continues to take the steps to slow the spread of COVID-19 and everyone in South Bruce Peninsula must do their part,” South Bruce Peninsula Mayor Janice Jackson.
The town reminds all outdoor public and private recreational areas including beaches, dog parks and playgrounds are closed. Boat launches, piers and marinas are now ordered to be closed. There is also a total fire ban in effect. Social distancing must be observed.
“It is prohibited to congregate in groups of larger than five,” a statement from the town stresses. “This will be enforced.”
By-Law Enforcement Officers have been given the authority by the Ontario government to enforce the orders made under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act.
The Town of South Bruce Peninsula says enforcement officers will exercise zero tolerance for those violating provincial orders and town by-laws.
“There has been an abundance of messaging including bold signage, warning of these imperative provincial measures,” explains a town statement. “Please help us keep this virus to a minimum in South Bruce Peninsula by following the provincial orders and restrictions. Please stay inside your home. This is the only way we can control COVID-19.”
